
PE and School Sport: who does what?
The government's strategy for physical education, school sport and club links (PESSCL) has resulted in a number of changes in who directs and provides support for schools in the London Borough of Richmond upon
Specialist Sports Colleges and Schools Sport Partnerships are at the hub of the Government's strategy to enhance young people's opportunities to participate in a wide range of sports as well as raising the standards of teaching and learning of PE and school sport.
Whitton School and Sports College position PE and sport at the centre of the curriculum, using it as a vehicle to develop and improve learning opportunities for all.
The Richmond School Sport Partnership (SSP) is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the government's Physical Education, School Sport and Club Link Strategy (PESSCL) and for monitoring and evaluating its impact
The SSP's aim is to:
· Engage the whole school population in regular high quality physical activity and school sport
· Extend opportunities for competitive sport by creating an expanded competition framework
· Encouraging sports leadership and volunteering
· Strengthening links between school and club sport to ease transition and extend opportunities beyond the school day.
· Provide Professional development for teachers by investing in continuous professional development for teachers.
· Provide accelerated learning and support for young people gifted and talented in sport
