The Richmond School Partnership (RSSP) oversees sporting opportunities and competitions for young people of school age within the borough of Richmond upon Thames. The organisation consists of a partnership manager and school sport coordinators, as well as a 2012 coordinator. The RSSP works closely with the local authority’s sports development team to deliver coaching, competitions and festivals for pupils from reception to year 11. The SSP also works closely with Richmond College and their Further Education sports coordinator (FESCO) to help facilitate sporting opportunities for young people aged 16-19.
The RSSP delivers the government’s new initiative ‘The School games’. The School games forms a key part of the Government programme to deliver a meaningful sporting legacy for the London 2012 Olympics. The focus of the School games will be to engage and enthuse more young people than ever before to participate in high quality meaningful school competition, supporting them in achieving their own personal best in sport and in life.
The School Games is supported by a newly established network of School Games Organisers (SGOs) and Teacher release (TR) posts. Currently the partnership manager fulfils the role of the School Games organiser for the borough of Richmond whilst the SSCo’s take on the teacher release posts within their secondary schools.
